🐾 Maine Aim Ranch Dogs: How We Keep Our Puppies Healthy From Day One

Raising strong, vibrant, well-balanced Pomsky puppies starts long before they ever meet their new families. At Maine Aim Ranch, we follow a proven health and wellness program that builds immunity, prevents parasites, and sets each puppy up for a lifetime of health. Our system has been developed over years of hands-on experience, research, and dedication—and we are proud to share it with you.

Ā

šŸ¼ Early Puppy Deworming Schedule

Parasite prevention is one of the most important things we do for young puppies. Certain intestinal parasites—roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, coccidia, and giardia—are extremely common in puppies. They’re often picked up from the environment or passed from the mother, so responsible breeders take a proactive approach.Ā  Every dog on our ranch is red wormed once a month at the time of the full moon.Ā  Every mother is dewormed the same time as her puppies.

At 2 & 4 Weeks: Nemex + Toltrazuril

we add deccox to the food also before puppies are born and while puppies are here with us.

We begin with a combination of:

āœ”ļø Nemex (Pyrantel Pamoate)

Targets and removes:

• Roundworms

• Hookworms

These are the two most common parasites in puppies and can cause diarrhea, potbellies, poor growth, and anemia if untreated.

āœ”ļø Toltrazuril

Targets and removes:

• Coccidia — a stubborn microscopic parasite that causes watery or bloody stools, poor appetite, and dehydration.

This early two-step protocol gives puppies a strong start before their immune system is fully developed.

Ā

🐶 5 Weeks: Safeguard + Neopar Vaccine

At 5 weeks for 5 days in a row, we take a major step in building immunity and wiping out tougher parasites.

āœ”ļø Safeguard (Fenbendazole)

Dose: 1cc per 4 lbs, given at 5 weeks for 5 days and again at 7 weeks for 5 days

Safeguard treats:

• Roundworms

• Hookworms

• Whipworms

• Giardia

• Some tapeworm species

Fenbendazole is safe, gentle, and effective—perfect for young puppies and litters.

āœ”ļø Neopar (Parvo Vaccine)

Neopar delivers strong, early protection against parvovirus, one of the most dangerous and fast-spreading canine diseases. Parvo can live in the environment for years, so early protection is essential.

Ā

🐾 6 Weeks: 5-Way Vaccine

At 6 weeks, our puppies receive the 5-way vaccine, which protects against:

• Parvo

• Distemper

• Adenovirus Type 1 (Hepatitis)

• Adenovirus Type 2 (Respiratory disease)

• Parainfluenza

This combination begins to protects against the deadliest viruses puppies face.

Ā

At 7 weeks old the puppies have their health check to make sure everything looks great before they head to their new homes. Ā

šŸ” 8 Weeks: Ready for New Homes

Your puppy leaves our ranch healthy, vaccinated, dewormed, and with a strong immune foundation. From here, you simply continue the vaccine schedule.

Ā

šŸ“… Your Puppy’s Vaccine Schedule After Going Home

To complete the immunity-building series:

āœ”ļø Next vaccines due at:

• 10 weeks old

• 14 weeks old

***These complete the recommended three-round series for strong protection.

āœ”ļø Optional: Rabies at 14 Weeks

Your vet can administer rabies at 14 weeks or later depending on local laws and your preferences.

Ā

🧪 Should you give more vaccines after this?

That’s a personal choice. Here is our perspective:

After the 3-shot puppy series, most dogs have strong immunity. Giving unnecessary boosters can sometimes cause side effects, so we encourage families to research and make informed choices.

***One great option is a titer test, which checks antibody levels.

If immunity is still strong, no vaccine is needed.

If immunity has dropped, your vet can give a booster.

Ā

šŸ— VERY Important: Don’t Change Food or Add Treats the First Month

This is one of the biggest mistakes new puppy owners make.

Puppy stomachs are sensitive, and changing food—or giving lots of new treats—almost guarantees diarrhea, vomiting, or unnecessary vet visits.

For at least the first month, feed ONLY what we recommend.

We have tested many brands over the years, and the best we have found is:

šŸ„‡ Pure Balance Salmon (with the wolf head on the bag)

Available at Walmart

Great for skin, coat, digestion, and allergy-sensitive puppies.

Treats We Recommend

To avoid tummy upset and keep training fun, stick to:

• Stewart’s Freeze-Dried Chicken Breast

• Small pieces of string cheese (for training only)

And our favorite:

⭐ NuVet Wafers see the link on our website and that I send to new puppy owners that is on our website to order.

One per day as a potty-training reward.

These are loaded with immune-boosting vitamins and minerals.

Every one of our ranch dogs gets one daily—we truly believe this is a major reason our dogs stay so healthy.

ā¤ļø Final Thoughts

Your puppy’s health journey starts here at Maine Aim Ranch, but you play the most important role once they go home. Following this protocol ensures a smooth transition, strong immunity, and a confident, thriving puppy.
